''And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.'' (1 John 4:14)
Are you also ready to give witness to the Saviour of the world?
“Nothing is more frigid than a Christian who cares not for the salvation of others. Do not claim that poverty, humble birth, lack of education, weakness, or low position prevents you: EVERY Christian can fulfil his part and benefit his neighbour. A believer who lives only for himself is like a fruitless tree, leaven that does not leaven, perfume that gives no fragrance, and a lamp that gives no light. Do not say, ‘It is impossible for me to bring others to Christ.’ If you are truly a Christian, your faith cannot remain hidden: it must shine and do good to those around you.”
“Do not say to yourself: ‘I am no priest or monk; I have a wife and children. This is a work for the priests…’’ […] “After hearing a sermon … those who have received the instruction must make it produce interest … that is, you must save your brothers.”
“Perhaps someone will say: ‘How can I spread the faith? I am not a priest, nor a preacher…’ This is not an excuse. Every Christian can, in his own place, do something for the spread of the Kingdom of God. By his good life, by his kind words, by his advice, he can draw others to the path of salvation. The work of spreading the faith is entrusted not only to pastors and teachers, but to all faithful Christians without exception.”
“Do not say: ‘I am a layperson, and therefore it is not my office to teach and admonish.’ You are a Christian, and Christianity requires that you care for the salvation of your brother. A candle does not hide its light, and a Christian must not hide his faith, but openly confess it before all and lead others to the truth. If a layman sees his neighbor perishing in ignorance or sin, and he keeps silent, he will be held accountable for his soul.”
“The work of preaching and teaching belongs not only to the pastors, but extends to all Christians, each in his own measure and sphere. You are appointed a preacher of the Gospel in the circle in which you live. Do not say, ‘I am not a priest.’ The Lord will not ask you what rank you held, but whether you confessed Him before men. To be silent when the faith is mocked, or when a word could enlighten a darkened mind, is a betrayal of Christ.”
“You say you are not an apostle? Every true Christian is an apostle. The Lord’s command ‘Go and teach all nations’ was not spoken to the Twelve alone; it is the unceasing command to all who are baptized into Christ. The home of a Christian is his mission field, his family his flock, his words and deeds his sermon. Do not bury your talent. The Lord will require of you the souls of those with whom you lived.”
“Nowadays the laity must do the work of the clergy. All of us, clergy and laity, are the Church, and we all must give witness to the faith. When a layman sees a heretic or an atheist and remains silent out of fear or politeness, he denies Christ. It is not enough to say, ‘It is the priest’s job.’ Each of us will give an account for the people God placed beside us.”
“You ask whether it is permissible for a layman to instruct others in the faith. Not only is it permissible, but it is a sacred duty, provided it is done with humility and love. The Apostle says, ‘Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom’ (Col 3:16). These words are addressed to the whole Church, not to the clergy alone.”
"Christians have a duty, according to the Lord's command, to become holy and perfect... God's grace which exists in the soul is poured out also to all the external character. The Christian ought to be courteous towards everyone. His words should breathe the grace of the Holy Spirit which dwells in his soul, so that his Christian lifestyle is witnessed and the name of God is glorified."
"How can we be silent before such an abundance of blessings, or out of ingratitude bury the talent that has been given to us (Mt. 25:18), like ungrateful and evil servants? ... By our oral teaching we encourage you too to strive that you may have part in His gifts and enjoy them."
"Acquire a peaceful spirit, and then thousands around you will be saved."
They gave witness despite being laymen and laywomen.
